John W. Galbreath famed thoroughbred horse owner and franchise owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1945 to 1985, during which time the Pirates won three world championships in 1960, 1971, and 1979. He was the first owner to break the so-called "Million Dollar Mark" when he signed Dave Parker to a multi-year contract in 1979. He also signed Hall of Fame player Roberto Clemente. In thoroughbred horse racing, Galbreath founded Darby Dan Farm and raced several champion horses. He is one of only four men to have raced both a Kentucky Derby winner and an Epsom Derby winner. Galbreath could easily be inducted into either or both the baseball and horse racing halls of fame one day. His autograph rarely surfaces and is highly sought after by collectors of both genres. Here is the only signed 8x10 of him we have ever seen. It is a vintage beauty and shows him in 1963 in the winner’s circle at Chruchill Downs with his Darby Dan Kentucky Derby winner, “Chateaugay”—boldy signed in fine fountain pen ink. Outstanding!
